Greg Bernal, an unemployed land-surveyor, and his girlfriend Janet Momphard, were fishing the Missouri River near the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area when the fish struck around 1 a.m. Tuesday. It would take the pair nearly a half-hour to heave the fish into their boat after reeling it in. The monster was caught on a 40 lb test line and a filet of Asian Carp was used for bait. This fish beat the previous record held in 2005 by 6 lbs.
